OEM vs ODM Pet Products: How Private Label Puppy Pads Are Actually Made
If you are a distributor, retailer or brand entering the pet care market, you will meet two acronyms immediately: OEM and ODM. Understanding the difference — and what happens on the production line — will save you months and a lot of money.
OEM vs ODM in Plain Language
- OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) — you bring the product specification and usually the brand; we manufacture to your drawing. Your design, our production capability.
- ODM (Original Design Manufacturer) — you choose from our existing, proven product designs (like our 23×23 six-layer pad platform), we customize branding, packaging and configuration, and you go to market fast.
Rule of thumb: OEM gives you maximum differentiation and needs more development time; ODM gives you a market-ready product in weeks.

Inside the Line: How a 6-Layer Pad Is Built
- Fluff pulp & SAP dosing — the absorbent core is formed with exact SAP ratios per zone; more polymer where dogs actually go, in the center.
- Layer lamination — top sheet, tissue, core, and PE backing are bonded under heat and pressure.
- Embossing / quilting — the diamond pattern is pressed in, channeling liquid to the core and preventing edge runoff.
- Side sealing — turned edges prevent sideways wicking, the classic "puddle around the pad" failure.
- Die cutting & folding — consistent 23" × 23" sizing, folded for retail packs.
- Online inspection — weight, thickness and backing integrity are checked continuously, not just at the end.

What We Can Customize (OEM/ODM Options)

| Size | Standard 23×23, travel, custom die-cut |
| Packaging | Retail bags, display boxes, barcode, multilingual inserts |
| Brand | Your logo, artwork, registered trademark |
5 Questions to Ask Any Pet Product Manufacturer
- Is the SAP content declared per pad, or hidden in a vague "high absorbency" claim?
- What is the reject rate on backing integrity — and is it tested per batch?
- Can they supply compliance documentation for your target market?
- What is the realistic MOQ for your first order, including custom packaging?
- Do they manufacture in their own facility, or resell from a third factory?
The last question is why we show our line openly: NIVAPET runs its own puppy pad factory, so the answers to all five are direct — declared specs, batch testing, full documentation, flexible first-order MOQs and no middleman markup. To see the consumer products that come off this line, start with the MOMOCO 6-layer range, or contact us to discuss a private label run.
